Kentucky Shoofly Pie

3/4 cups sorghum
3/4 cup very hot water
½ teaspoon baking soda 
1½ cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, chopped
1 unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 375°. Mix sorghum with hot water and blend well. In a separate bowl mix flour, sugar and soda and add butter with fingers until you get a coarse crumb. Line a baking pan with shell. Pour in 1/3 of molasses mixture and top with 1/3 of crumb mixture. Repeat, adding alternate layers, with crumb on top. Bake for about 35 minutes.
